Ministers' Forum

Overall moderator:  Steven W. Sinding

The Ministers' Forum of the Women Deliver Conference brought together high level delegations from 30-35 countries where maternal mortality and poverty are significant issues with a small group of experts in maternal health. Invited to be part of the country delegations are ministers of health and of planning, parliamentarians, and representatives of civil society organizations active in the effort to reduce maternal mortality.
The Forum is designed to review data and analyze the efforts to achieve MDG5 and to engage actual decision makers in discussions about:

  • why reducing maternal mortality should be at or near the top of every nation's development priorities;
  • which programs and interventions have been shown to work best to reduce maternal mortality and morbidity;
  • what resources will be needed, globally and nationally, to implement effective interventions; and
  • what kinds of political strategies will get us from where we are today to where we would like to be in 2015.
